Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS - Drew Waters went 4-for-4 on Friday night, extending his hitting streak to seven games as the Mississippi Braves (13-13) came from behind for a 4-2 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (10-18) at Trustmark Park. The third-straight win in front of 3,554 fans clinches the series with game's four and five coming on Saturday and Sunday.

The 20-year-old Waters is 11-for-16 over his last four games and now leads the league with a .358 batting average, 38 hits, 15 extra-base hits, 12 doubles, and 58 total bases.

On the mound, Tucker Davidson picked up where Joey Wentz left off on Thursday and dealt 4.0 innings of no-hit baseball. For the first time in just over a week though, the M-Braves didn't jump out to a lead. Bryson Brigman singled for the Shrimp to begin the top of the fifth inning and then Anfernee Seymour drew a walk. Davidson regrouped and struck out Santiago Chavez, but walked pitcher Robert Dugger to load the bases. Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Brian Miller scoring Brigman.

Justin Twine began the top of the sixth inning with a double, but Davidson recorded back-to-back strikeouts with a pitch count in the upper 90's for the first two outs. Brigman singled home Twine with two outs to put the Shrimp up 2-0. Claudio Custodio (W, 1-0) took over for Davidson and surrendered a hit, but induced a groundout from Chavez to get out of the inning.

Davidson came away with a no-decision and matched a career-high with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings, four walks and a season-high 101 pitches.

The Braves had been held in check by Jacksonville starter Robert Dugger (L, 1-5), but broke out in the bottom of the sixth. Daniel Lockhart singled to begin the inning and Alejandro Salazar notched a single to place two on base. Waters worked a seven pitch at-bat and looped a single into shallow left field scoring Lockhart to trim the deficit to 2-1. Cristian Pache reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners. An errant pick-off attempt to first by Dugger let Salazar score and tie the game at 2-2. Tyler Neslony, making his first start of 2019, then drew a walk to load the bases for Andy Wilkins. The 30-year-old veteran lined a two-run double down the right field line plating Pache and Neslony to put the M-Braves up 4-2.

The 28-year-old Custodio was making his M-Braves debut and worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to secure the win. Connor Johnstone (S, 1) logged 2.0 innings of one-hit baseball and was credited with his first save.

Pache's 1-for-4 night on Friday upped his hitting streak to six games. The No. 4 prospect for the Braves is 11-for-23 over his last six contests. Pache is fourth in the league with a .931 OPS.

The M-Braves go for a fourth-straight win over the Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday night at Trustmark Park. Atlanta Braves No. 3 overall prospect RHP Ian Anderson (1-1, 3.52) starts for the M-Braves opposite RHP Jorge Guzman (1-2, 4.62) for Jacksonville. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm with coverage beginning at 5:50 pm on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, MiLB First Pitch app. and MiLB.TV (subscription required).
