Washington Beats Evansville 5-2

Evansville, IN - The Washington Wild Things (22-27) held on to beat the Evansville Otters 5-2 Friday Night. Washington has won six of their last seven games.

Washington didn't get a hit until the second inning when Brett Grandstrand's base hit drove in Matt Sutton who reached on an error. Washington added an additional four runs in the third inning when Phil Laurent drove in Michael Parker who reached on a stand up double. First baseman Ernie Banks' bat remained hot as he slammed a two run homer to right center field.

Washington didn't take advantage of a scoring opportunity in the fifth when Evansville's Rashad Ford walked four consecutive batters. Michael Parker was forced in on a Jacob Dempsey walk, giving Washington a five run advantage. Kyle Dahman entered the game with the bases loaded and no outs to relieve Ford. The right-hander proceeded to strike out three consecutive batters.

In the bottom of the inning, Evansville got on the board when Erick Blackwell drove in Andre Liscinsky.

Evansville scored one more run in the ninth inning when with the bases loaded Reece Gorman scored when Javier Brown was hit by a pitch.

Starting pitcher Andy Schindling (2-0), who was whacked by two line drives, got the win for Washington, allowing one unearned run on four hits, walking three, and striking out four in six and a third innings of work. Justin Edwards, Keith Meyer, and Nick Peterson combined for the remaining innings. Peterson earned his seventh save of the season.

Washington and Evansville meet for game two of this three game series Saturday when first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EDT. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 7:55. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park Thursday for a six game set.
