LOVES PARK, IL - Ryan Wehrle drove in one of the two West runs as the East captured a 5-2 victory at the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at Road Ranger Stadium outside of Rockford. All seven Rascals appeared in the contest led by River City manager, Chad Parker.

Ryan Basham, a Florence Freedom outfielder, broke a scoreless tie with a sixth-inning homer and was voted All-Star Most Valuable Player.

It was also a big night for the Washington Wild Things. Grant Psomas, who won Tuesday's Home Run Derby, homered a pitch after Basham hit his. Teammate Jacob Dempsey hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and reliever Nick Peterson earned the win in relief.

The Rascals representatives combined for three of the seven West Division hits. Chris Colton, Jorge Gutierrez and Wehrle all singled with Colton adding a stolen base in the process and Wehrle a run scored. Chad Maddox finished 0-4.

The East Division took a 5-0 lead on the trio of home runs. The West Division broke the shutout in the bottom of the seventh on two-out RBI singles by Wehrle and Gateway's Charlie Lisk.

Traverse City closer Jeff Williams struck out two and pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.

The River City pitching staff combined for three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while facing the minimum. Jake Laber used a double play in the fourth to face only three hitters while Josh Lowey retired the side in order in the fifth, striking out one on 16 pitches. Jason Lowey went to the bump in the ninth, surrendering one hit. The Lowey brothers became the first set of twins to appear in the Frontier League All-Star Game.

The Rascals return to the field Friday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark when the Midwest Sliders make the trip to O'Fallon. It is Progress West Fireworks Friday and St. Louis Kids Magazine Night at the park. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening one hour prior to the first pitch.
