WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem finally conquered Potomac as the Warthogs edged the Nationals 4-2 on Thursday night at Ernie Shore Field. The win snapped Winston-Salem's eight-game losing streak against Potomac and prevented the Warthogs from being swept by the P-Nats for the third consecutive time.

Potomac struck for a pair of runs off Clevelan Santeliz in the second as Dee Brown collected an RBI ground out and Jhonatan Solano followed with a run-scoring double with two outs to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead.

The Warthogs tied the game in their half of the second as C.J. Lang and Adam Ricks both lined RBI singles up the middle to knot the game at two. Winston-Salem took the lead in the fifth when Greg Paiml led off the inning with a double of Ross Detwiler. After Adam Ricks dropped a sacrifice bunt, Estee Harris delivered an RBI single to give the Warthogs a 3-2 lead.

A C.J. Retherford RBI ground out in the eighth inning scored Salvador Sanchez with an insurance run to give the Warthogs a 4-2 lead. The extra run was not needed as Kanekoa Texeria, recently named to the Carolina League All-Star team, gave up a double in the ninth, but struck out Dee Brown to preserve the win. It was the 13th save of the season for Texeira.

Detwiler (5-4) went five innings and surrendered three runs on nine hits to suffer the loss for Potomac. Warthog's reliever Ryan Rote (4-2) retired one batter to end the fifth inning and collected the win.

The Warthogs continue their home stand thru the weekend as they welcome the Wilmington Blue Rocks to Ernie Shore Field for a three-game series beginning on Friday. Winston-Salem will send RHP Matt Zaleski (3-2, 3.81) to the mound in the opener, while Wilmington will turn to LHP Everett Teaford (4-1, 2.79). The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 7 p.m.
