Frederick Keys News Release

After blowing a late lead Wednesday night, the Keys called upon local boy, Zack Clark, pitching nearby his hometown of Newark, DE to hang on to another small lead. Clark entered to cheers and left the game with a broad smile on his face, setting Wilmington down in order to preserve a 2-1 Frederick win at Frawley Stadium on Thursday Night.

The Keys would lead early when a fielder's choice ground ball off of the bat of Keys C Mike Pierce put Frederick atop 1-0. It was again Pierce who struck a critical blow to Wilmington, launching a solo home run to right-centerfield with two outs in the fourth inning to give the Keys a 2-0 advantage. Pierce, who had six RBI's entering the contest, drove home both Keys runs on the night.

Keys starter Zach Schmidt (2-3) was stellar getting his first win as a starter in eleven tries between Frederick and Bowie in 2008. Clark worked with two outs and nobody on base in five of his six innings, allowing a run on four hits for the win.

J.P. Martinez came in to work two hitless innings, getting an inning ending double play off of the bat of Blue Rocks C Jeff Howell to preserve the lead in the seventh inning.

That set the door for Clark, the local boy who has had a wild ride in 2008. Working as a starter in Triple-A Norfolk just weeks ago, Clark was called upon for the save and came through.

The Keys will head to Potomac to take on the Nationals for the first of three games Friday, June 20th at 7:05 p.m. It will be Fan Appreciation Weekend at Harry Grove Stadium with Giveaways galore beginning June 26th at Kinston.
