Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, saw Myrtle Beach score the final eight runs Thursday night on its way to a 10-2 victory on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The Pelicans (2-1) plated five runs in the sixth inning against the Avalanche (1-2).

Salem struck first in the game against Myrtle starter Kyle Cofield. Jordan Parraz and Tim Torres stroked twin singles to open, with Parraz scoring on Torres' hit. Next, Mark Ori slammed a double to right-center that scored Torres and upped the lead to two.

Myrtle, though, closed the gap quickly with a pair in the third. Jon Mark Owings led the inning off with a double against Corey Bass. With Owings at third two batters later, a Gorkys Hernandez infield single scored Owings and an error shuttled Hernandez to second. Later, Eric Campbell served a single to left to score Hernandez.

In the sixth, Ernesto Mejia doubled to lead off. Then, Brandon Hicks walked and Tyler Flowers was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Immediately following, Concepcion Rodriguez blasted a bases-clearing double to right-center to give Myrtle Beach a three-run lead. Another run came across as a ground out and error by Jhon Florentino allowed Rodriguez and Owings the plate.

After a run scored in the next inning, the Pelicans pounced for two more in the ninth. With one out and one on, Tyler Flowers deposited the first pitch he saw from David Qualben over the wall in center for a home run and the final score.

Salem hits the road for the first of three with the Kinston Indians Friday. Salem throws Erick Abreu against K-Tribe right-hander Josh Tomlin.
