Warriors Raise Over $4000

The Warriors first "Fight Night" took place on September 29th when the Moose Jaw Warriors took on the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Moose Jaw Warriors arrived to the game wearing personalized blue ties in tribute of Men's Cancer month.

Those very ties along with an autographed signed photo of each player sporting their tie were auctioned off over the past week. Dedication ties were also sold for $1.00 with all funds raised directly benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society. Fans were encouraged to join the fight and tie on their own blue tie or scarf for the game.

A blue tie is a symbol of Prostate Cancer, a cancer an estimated 24,600 men will be diagnosed with this year. A man has a greater than 1 in 7 chance of developing prostate cancer in his lifetime according to 2009 statistics. But with the gracious support of the community, the Warriors raised over $4000.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society--funds the directly benefit cancer research and early detection education.

"Enough kind words cannot be expressed to all those who helped our cause," said Director of Community Relations Marnel Rasmussen. "When our players, billets, parents, sponsors and fans unite for any cause; it continually shows how charitable and passionate those who support our team and the community are here in Moose Jaw," added Rasmussen. "Bringing awareness to Men's Cancer was our ultimate goal and with the amount of attention inspired by the campaign-we certainly hit our mark," commented Rasmussen.

A big thank you goes to our generous supporters and fans. The Warriors Alumni Association kicked off the fundraiser with a cheque for $2,500.00. Thank you to NuClick web design for creating the photo design and Andy's Transmission & KCS Marketing for their donation of the blue ties. Another big thanks goes to Wells Camera & Sound for printing the photos. The local Prostate Cancer Awareness group, headed by Dennis Auger were a major part of the success of this fundraiser along with Gaye Stewart of the local Canadian Cancer Society.
