
Portland Gives Everett First Loss, 5-3

Everett, WA - The Portland Winterhawks scored three unanswered goals in the third period to come from behind and defeat the Silvertips 5-3. Tyler Maxwell, Josh Winquist and Brennan Yadlowski scored for Everett. Maxwell has scored in five straight games tallying eight points (6G- 2A) and Landon Ferraro has points in all five games played (3G- 3A).
Winquist started the scoring for Everett Wednesday night scoring his first goal this season at 11:11 of the first period. Scott MacDonald, on a 3 on 1 rush, made a great cross slot pass to a rushing Winquist before beating Portland goaltender Keith Hamilton top shelf, blocker side for a 1-0 Everett lead. Everett defenseman Brennan Yadlowski, acquired from Lethbridge this past week, scored with less than one second left in the first period. MacDonald made a tape to tape pass after circling behind the net to Yadlowski coming in from the right point. Yadlowski beat Hamilton five-hole for his first goal of the season and as an Everett Silvertip to give the home team a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Oliver Gabriel brought Portland within one at 1:21 of the second period. Gabriel scored his first goal of the season bringing the score to 2-1. Portland's Taylor Aronson tied the game on a 4 on 3 power play goal at 8:04. Aaronson went top shelf on a one-timer to make the score 2-2. Maxwell, scoring in his fifth straight game, regained the Silvertips lead at 17:31 on the power play. Maxwell found the puck after a scrum on top of the crease to collect his sixth goal of the season.
Ryan Johansen tied the game for Portland at 8:44 of the third period. Johansen scored after a slap shot from the top right circle beat Simpson and went through the net. Play continued and through video review the puck was found to cross the goal line to make the score 3-3. The Winterhawks took their first lead of the game at 12:36 with a goal from Spencer Bennett. Bennett deflected a Taylor Peters shot backdoor past a diving Simpson for a 4-3 Portland lead. Brad Ross added to Portland's lead at 18:13 to make the score 5-3.
This brings the 'Tips record to 4-1-0-0 with 8 points in 5 games played. Everett comes back home Sunday night October 10th to host the Kelowna Rockets at 5:05pm.
