SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (1-1) defeated the Iowa Energy (0-3) 125-104 on Wednesday night in front of a sellout crowd at Kaiser Permanente Arena. This game marks the ninth consecutive capacity crowd at Kaiser Permanente dating back to the 2015-16 regular season.
Phil Pressey led the way for the Warriors with 31 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds. Scott Wood contributed with 23 points and 10 rebounds, en route to breaking a Santa Cruz all-time record with a total of 7 three-point shots made in the game.
Iowa's Kalin Lucas poured in a team-high 27 points, while Wayne Selden Jr. finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds.
In the opening minutes of the first quarter, the Warriors would take an 8-2 lead over the Energy, battling to control the game's tempo. Iowa would rally back to come within striking distance early in the first, but the Warriors would carry a three-point edge heading into the second frame.
The second period marked a back-and-forth of trading baskets, complete with three lead changes. Iowa grabbed their their largest lead of the game (6) at the 2:42 mark, but Phil Pressey's back-to-back buckets from beyond-the-arc would re-claim the lead for the Warriors. Iowa would finish the half on top, sending Santa Cruz into the break at a two-point deficit despite Pressey's 14 points in the 2nd frame.
Coming out of the locker room, Scott Wood drained a three-pointer to take back the lead for the Warriors. Wood scored 15 points in the frame, shooting 83% from beyond-the-arc. Alex's Hamilton's buzzer-beating triple would give the Warriors their largest lead of the game heading into the final frame with a 92-82 edge.
The Warriors outscored the Energy 33-22 in the fourth quarter to finish the game with an emphatic 21-point margin of victory,
