Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Moose Jaw Warriors didn't have the start to their three-game road trip to Alberta that they were looking for on Wednesday.
Moose Jaw dropped a 4-1 game to Lethbridge, but will be looking to start fresh now in Edmonton against the Oil Kings on Friday night.
"We did a lot of good things on Wednesday, but the pucks weren't bouncing our way," Warriors defenceman Logan Dowhaniuk said.
"You're doing a lot of right things and you're getting chances, but they aren't going in, sometimes you can get away from the game plan and we've just got to stick to the game plan because it's been working."
The Hurricanes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Warriors, forcing Moose Jaw to attempt to battle back.
"We tried to fight back, but it didn't really happen, so just sticking to it and moving onto the next day and focusing on what we can do now," Dowhaniuk said.
Friday's game in Edmonton will serve as a redemption game in a couple of ways for the Warriors. The squad will be looking to rebound from Wednesday's loss, but also a 3-2 loss to the Oil Kings last month.
Dowhaniuk said the Warriors need to use that loss as motivation.
"We definitely remember it, we got kind of embarrassed last game, we showed up expecting to win and didn't earn it, they played a lot better than we did that day and we can't do that again," he said.
Dowhaniuk won a WHL Championship with the Oil Kings last season and this will be his final trip into Rogers Place in the WHL. He said it will be a bit of an emotion game for him.
"I've played a lot of hockey in that rink, so it will be exciting to be back and see my old buddies and hometown game, which is pretty nice too," Dowhaniuk said.
Going into Friday's game, the Warriors will be looking to come out of the gates strong.
"We need to get pucks down early and get on their D, being physical, getting shots through and just chasing rebounds and challenging the goalie early for sure," Dowhaniuk said.
The Warriors and Oil Kings face-off on Friday night at 8 p.m. CST from Rogers Place.
