ICE CHIPS
The Winnipeg ICE open a two game, East Division road trip tonight in Brandon as they take on the Wheat Kings in the Battle of Manitoba presented by Taylor McCaffery Lawyers. Winnipeg continues on into Saskatoon tomorrow.
The ICE are coming off a 5-3 victory Wednesday over the Saskatoon Blades at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena. Zach Benson and Connor McClennon each scored twice while Zack Ostapchuk rounded out the attack. Matthew Savoie chipped in with two assists. Daniel Hauser made 26 saves.
From October 12th to November 19th, the ICE set a new franchise record with a 15 game winning streak eclipsing the previous mark of 14 games held by the 2009-10 Kootenay ICE.
From October 15th to 22nd, Winnipeg became the first Eastern Conference based team to go a perfect 5-0 on the road versus the B.C. Division since the 2011-12 Kootenay ICE.
Carson Lambos was named the 24th Captain in ICE franchise history on October 6th.
The 19 year old returned from Minnesota Wild Training Camp where he appeared in three NHL preseason games. Connor McClennon, Owen Pederson and Ben Zloty were named alternate captains for 2022-23.
ICE VS WHEAT KINGS
The ICE are 5-0 versus the Wheat Kings this season in the Battle of Manitoba presented by Taylor McCaffery Lawyers. The ICE and Wheat Kings play 10 times during the regular season (Sept 24 @ Bran 4-3 OTW / Oct 28 @ Bran 4-1 W / Oct 29 @ Wpg 4-3 W / Nov 12 @ Wpg 8-3 W / Dec 17 @ Wpg 4-3 OTW / tonight @ Bran / Mar 4 @ Bran / Mar 12 @ Wpg / Mar 24 @ Bran / Mar 25 @ Wpg).
Zach Benson leads the ICE with 10 points (six goals and four assists) against the Wheat Kings this season. Ben Zloty has a team high seven assists.
Winnipeg had an 8-1-1 record versus Brandon during the 2021-22 regular season led by forward Matthew Savoie who registered 16 points (2 goals and 14 assists) in 10 games. Owen Pederson and Mikey Milne led the ICE with six goals each.
