Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - Coming off a pair of hard fought wins over the weekend, the Moose Jaw Warriors are preaching focus as they start the new week back on home ice.

The Warriors host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

"Focus will be important, it's our details, making sure we're executing what we're trying to do and that doesn't have anything to do with who you're playing," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.

Moose Jaw has been one of the hottest teams in the Western Hockey League since the start of the second half, posting a 12-2-0-0 record over their last 14 games.

The Warriors have also moved into second place in the Eastern Conference after knocking off Prince Albert and Red Deer last weekend.

"We've done a really good job overall in both games," Warriors forward Martin Rysavy said. "We have to stay with the mindset in checking and playing hard like that and scoring goals, so I was really happy with how the team turned out on the weekend."

On Friday, the Warriors led 1-0 heading into the third, but Prince Albert scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game. Moose Jaw answered with two goals in 24 seconds to reclaim control.

In Saturday's game, the Warriors fell behind 1-0 just over two minutes into the game, but took over after that on their way to doubling up the fourth place Rebels.

O'Leary said the Warriors did a good job of sticking with their game plan, despite the ups and downs in a game.

"We did a real good job of adjusting to a different style of play - a bit of a track meet the weeks before - but it was good for us," he said. "We stuck with the game plan when it was hard, I still think we can do a better job of getting inside and creating opportunities, but I liked our defending over the course of the weekend and that's going to be good moving forward."

The Warriors will take on the 11th place Oil Kings on Tuesday night, who come in on a three-game losing skid.

Moose Jaw is 2-1-0-0 this season against Edmonton.

"Focus is going to be the main part of the game because they're last in the standings, but not the worst team in the world, we lost to them at the start of the season, so everyone is good in this league," Rysavy said. "We just have to play our game and stick with everything we're doing right now."

The Warriors and Oil Kings square off at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
