Warriors Come up Short against Broncos
April 25, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
The Moose Jaw Warriors created a wealth of opportunities throughout yesterday's game but they were not able to convert consistently and fell 4-2 to the Swift Current Broncos, dropping their record to 8-13-2.
The teams established a quick pace in the opening period.ÃÂ They both came up the ice with speed, however, defensively both teams did a good job funnelling the puck to the walls to try and limit the quality scoring chances.
Swift Current had three power-plays in the first period, which allowed them to pressure the Moose Jaw net with 13 shots, and at 15:30 they got a goal on the man-advantage from Raphael Pelletier to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
Moose Jaw started the second period strong, 1:17 into the frame the Warriors came across the Broncos line.ÃÂ Jagger Firkus dished the puck to Riley Krane on the left-wing, the 20-year-old drove the net and put a shot past Isaac Poulter to tie the game at one.
At 6:19, the puck bounced off the Warriors boards and came to Cole Nagy, the Bronco 19-year-old put a quick shot along the ice that found the back of the net to give Swift Current the lead.
Moose Jaw fought back at 9:21, when a Cole Jordan shot from the right circle made its way through traffic and past Poulter, his third of the season tied the game at two.
In the third period, the Warriors continued to toss a lot of rubber towards the Broncos net.ÃÂ Moose Jaw outshot Swift Current 17-8 in the frame and 39-31 overall, but the Broncos picked up a power-play goal from Cole Nagy at 11:29 and then he scored an empty-net goal to finish the game.
Moose Jaw was 0-for-3 on the power-play and 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Warriors close out the 2021 Subway WHL Hub on Monday when they take on the Saskatoon Blades.ÃÂ Catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the PreGame Show at 7:40 pm.
