Seattle Thunderbirds News Release
PORTLAND - The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 Sunday night at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
This game was broadcast on JOEtv Channel 22/Cable 110. The T-Birds next game on JOEtv will be Saturday, May 1, at the Spokane Chiefs at 5pm.
The T-Birds next game is Wednesday against the Everett Silvertips at 7:05pm at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Keltie Jeri-Leon put the T-birds on the board 22 seconds into the game. Henrik Rybinski forced a turnover in the left corner and the puck squirted up the boards as Ryan Gottfried pinched down from the point. Gottfried sent the puck down low to Rybinski who quickly sent the puck to the left point to Jeri-Leon, who was covering for Gottfried. Jeri-Leon skated into the left circle and put a hard wrist shot over Portland goalie Dante Giannuzzi's blocker for his 11th goal of the season.
The T-Birds killed off back-to-back Portland 5-on-3 power plays in the first half of the second period.
Portland tied the game 1-1 at 9:10 of the second period on a power-play goal by Gabe Klassen.
Klassen scored at 15:24 of the second to put Portland in front 2-1.
Simon Knak scored at 4:10 of the third period to make it a 3-1 Winterhawks lead.
In a four-on-four situation with 4:14 left to play the T-Birds pulled Jackson Berry for an extra attacker. They got several good looks but Mason Mannek hit the empty net with 2:12 left in the game.
