Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors and the City of Moose Jaw are pleased to announce a new, multi-year lease agreement for the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
The previous agreement expired on August 31, 2021, and was extended by mutual agreement to August 31, 2023. The new agreement is retroactive to September 1, 2023, and in effect until August 31, 2028.
Among the negotiated items in the agreement are new terms for the annual licence fee, sponsorship, advertising, naming rights, ticket sales, scheduling, and more.
"The open dialogue and mutual respect demonstrated during the negotiation process have undoubtedly laid a strong foundation for our continued partnership," added Maryse Carmichael, City Manager.
"I am confident that with our aligned interests and commitment to excellence, the Warriors organization and the City of Moose Jaw will continue to accomplish great things together in the future."
"We thank Ms. Carmichael and the City of Moose Jaw for their hard work in negotiating this agreement," said Bob Dougall, Warriors President and Governor. "The challenge for us was finding financial balance between ensuring day-to-day operations at the Moose Jaw Events Centre continue, and the long-term financial hurdles that continue to be a reality."
"We acknowledge that we have the privilege of playing in one of the best facilities in the WHL," Dougall continued, adding that since 2007, the Warriors have contributed $9.3 million in revenue sharing, rent, building upgrades and the pledge to the new downtown facility. "We thank Moose Javians and our sponsors for your continued support, which will be necessary to ensure another 40 years of Moose Jaw Warriors hockey."
"The Moose Jaw Warriors are key contributors to the identity and economy of our community," said Clive Tolley, Mayor. "On behalf of City Council, we thank the Moose Jaw Warriors Board of Directors, Warriors organization and City Administration for their efforts to finalize this agreement."
The new agreement goes before Moose Jaw City Council for ratification at the March 25 regular meeting, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
