Warriors Battle Hard But Come up Short in Overtime in Saskatoon

A night after a hard loss, the Moose Jaw Warriors responded well and fought back late in Saskatoon, but unfortunately, they came up short, falling 4-3 in overtime at SaskTel Centre.

Both teams came out strong in the opening period and established a quick pace.

Two minutes into the game, the Warriors came up the ice on an odd-man rush.  Moose Jaw was able to get a quality shot on net but Keon MacInnes was able to make the stop.

Saskatoon grabbed the rebound and raced up the ice, eventually moving it to Evan Patrician on the right-wing who let a shot go inside the Moose Jaw circle that found the back of the net.

Moose Jaw kept fighting, and at 7:47 they were rewarded for their hard work.

Calder Anderson played the puck around the Blades boards and Martin Lang was able to pick it up behind the Saskatoon net.

Lang was then able to set up Garrett Wright on top of the Saskatoon crease where he hammered in his third of the season to tie the game at one.

With under nine minutes left in the period, the Warriors took a penalty and the Blades capitalized on the power-play.  They were able to set up Martin Fasko-Rudas in the high slot where he let a one-timer go that snuck through traffic and over the goal line to give Saskatoon a 2-1 lead.

The action continued in the second period, both teams were able to generate quality looks as they went on the attack.

Playing 4-on-4 inside the final two minutes of the period, Saskatoon defenceman Scott Walford was able to walk off the left point to inside the circle where he lifted a shot past Brock Gould to extend the Blades lead.

Down two to start the third, the Warriors kept fighting.

At 5:04, Cade Hayes made a backhand pass from behind the Saskatoon net to set up Logan Doust on top of the Saskatoon crease where he scored his seventh of the season.

Just over a minute later, Doust had the puck inside the Moose Jaw zone and was able to swing it up the ice to Ryder Korczak who broke across the Saskatoon line on a breakaway.

Korczak came in on goalie Keon MacInnes, and as he hit the left side of the crease, he lifted a backhand top shelf, his 15th goal of the year tied the game at three.

The rest of regulation saw both teams get some chances but neither was able to finish the game, which sent it to overtime.

Inside the final minute of the extra period, Saskatoon's Kyle Crnkovic floated a shot towards the Moose Jaw net where Tristen Robins was able to deflect it over the goal line to give the Blades the game.

Ryder Korczak and Logan Doust led the Warriors with a goal and two points each, and Brock Gould made 44 saves.  Tristen Robins led the Blades with one goal and three points.

The boys will load the bus Monday and head out on their season-high 6-game road trip.  Their journey out west will start Wednesday in Spokane with their only meeting of the season against the Chiefs.
