Warriors Battle Back to Beat Blades
December 8, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades dropped a 3-2 decision to the Moose Jaw Warriors at SaskTel Centre on Friday night. Now at 17-10-3-0 on the season, the Blades will travel to Moose Jaw for the second half of a home and home series on Saturday night.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
The Blades got out to a quick start with a pair of goals from Eric Florchuk (9) and Josh Paterson (8) in the first period. Assists came from Kirby Dach, Gary Haden and Nolan Kneen.
Then the Warriors went on to score 3 unanswered goals in each period, 2 of which coming on the power play.
Saskatoon outshot Moose Jaw 35-25 in the game including 14-5 in the third period, but couldn't solve 20-year-old netminder Brodan Salmond.
TURNING POINT
Saskatoon had an extended 5-on-3 power play for 1:48 late in the 2nd period that carried over into the 3rd but failed to capitalize. The Blades still came out strong and outshot the Warriors in the 3rd, but not scoring on the two-man advantage seemed to give Salmond a little extra confidence going down the stretch.
TOP PERFORMERS
Gary Haden had a gutsy assist in the first period, 4 shots on goal, and a +1 rating.
Brandon Schuldhaus had strong night on the Blades back end making his physical presence know. He was +1 on the night.
Brodan Salmond made 33 saves and helped the Moose Jaw penalty kill go 5/5.
NOTEWORTHY NUMBERS
Nolan Kneen had an assist for a 3rd straight game and was the only Blade player to finish the game at +2.
Chase Wouters went 10/16 in the face-off circle.
UP NEXT
The Blades are in Moose Jaw Saturday night for a rematch with the Warriors. Then on Sunday, the Prince Albert Raiders visit SaskTel Centre for Teddy Bear Toss night.
