Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs improved their home record to 8-4 as they dropped the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday night by a score of 6-2.
The Chiefs got to the Hurricanes early, capitalizing on their first power play opportunity of the night at 4:31 as Luc Smith picked up his fifth point in as many games with Spokane, finding the net on a one-timer from the left circle. Just 18 seconds later, San Jose Sharks prospect Jake McGrew added a goal of his own on a rebound chance as the Chiefs quickly turned a 0-0 tie into a 2-0 lead; a score that held into the first intermission.
Spokane used goals by Smith - his second of the game - and Woods to extend their lead to 4-0 just over four minutes into the second period. Lethbridge answered with a pair of goals, one on the power play, later in the period to cut the lead back to two at 4-2.
Chiefs forward Eli Zummack earned his career-best fourth assist of the night with a helper on Woods' second goal, this time on the power play, with 8:54 left in regulation to make it 5-2. The Chiefs tacked on a late goal from Cordel Larson as the rookie winger tucked in a wraparound goal to put the final stamp on a 6-2 victory.
Spokane goaltender Bailey Brkin was 28 of 30 in the net for the Chiefs. Carl Tetachuk started for Lethbridge and went 8-for-12 in 24:05 before being relieved by Reece Klassen, who went 15-for-17 down the stretch. The Chiefs went 3-for-4 on the power play while the Hurricanes were 1-for-3.

The Chiefs return to the ice tomorrow night as they take on the Kootenay ICE for Teddy Bear Toss presented by The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice after the Chiefs' first goal. Toys will be gathered and donated to local families in need. Saturday night is also Buck Night, with fans able to purchase $1 hot dogs and Coca-Cola beverages at various concession stands throughout the concourse.
