Toledo Walleye News Release
TOLEDO, OH. - The ECHL has selected the Toledo Walleye as the inaugural recipient of the ECHL Social Media Award.
This award is presented to an ECHL Member Team who has exemplified the use of social media in the following categories; scope of team reach (how many forms of social media does the team utilize and number of followers), creative social content/campaigns, use of social media to achieve business goals and active engagement with fans.
The other finalists were the Cincinnati Cyclones, Colorado Eagles, Florida Everblades and Manchester Monarchs.
"We're absolutely thrilled to be the first ever recipient of the ECHL Social Media Award of Excellence," says Nathan Steinmetz, Toledo Walleye Digital Marketing Manager. "Our communications team works really hard - and has a lot of fun - providing great social content to our fans."
"The Walleye fan base is very invested in our organization and they love to share their passion with friends, family and each other," says Amanda Jerzykowski, Toledo Walleye Social Media Coordinator. "We're always looking for new and exciting ways to engage and interact with our audience online."
Many of the team's most successful and creative campaigns during the 2015-16 season were built around video posts including the announcing of the return of popular players via Facebook video posts, periodic "Behind the Bench" coach interviews and the announcement of the inaugural class of the Toledo Hockey Hall of Fame. In total, the Walleye generated 455,117 video views on Facebook over the last year.
Posts about the teams top specialty jersey themes (8-bit, Don Cherry, Zombie) were shared hundreds of times, leading to feature stories on major media sites such as ESPN, Sports Illustrated, The Score, Bleacher Report and Yahoo!
The Walleye had great success in tying sponsored content with fan engagement including "Engaging Photo", sponsored by a local jeweler, where fans were invited to try and locate a diamond ring in a posted photo.
