Tommy Thompson Returns to Greenville in 2016-17
June 30, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced rookie forward Tommy Thompson has agreed to terms with the team for the 2016-17 season.
"We were very impressed with Tommy at the end of last season," Head Coach Brian Gratz said. "He has great speed, competes hard and brought a good offensive skill set to our lineup. I'm excited to have him back."
Thompson, 25, began his professional career with Greenville near the end of last season following a four-year career at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. He debuted on Mar. 25 at Florida and went on to record two goals and two penalty minutes in eight contests, including his first professional tally on Apr. 2.
"It was an easy decision to return to Greenville for my first full season as a pro," Thompson said. "Coach Gratz gave me a great opportunity last spring and I'm looking forward to getting back in the locker room with the guys this October. I was also impressed with the city and overwhelmed by the fan support I received in such a short amount of time last April."
A native of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Thompson collected 57 points (26g, 31a) and 100 penalty minutes in 141 career games at St. Lawrence. He ranked third on the team in scoring as a junior with a career-best 23 points (9g, 14a) and finished fifth on the club in scoring as a senior while also serving as an alternate captain.
