Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Wednesday that they have signed goaltender Keegan Asmundson and forward Justin Hussar to ECHL contracts for the 2016-17 season. Both players return to Indy after spending part of the 2015-16 campaign with the Fuel.

Asmundson, 25, posted a 7-10-1-0 record in 20 appearances last year between Indy and the Evansville IceMen. In 13 games with the Fuel after signing as a free agent in February, the 6-foot-5, 222-pound netminder recorded a 6-6-0-0 record with a 2.61 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Asmundson began his professional career with the South Carolina Stingrays in 2014-15, where he went 2-1-0-0 in three games.

"We're extremely excited to have Keegan back," said Fuel Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations Bernie John. "He played really well for us and gave a chance to win night in and night out. We are looking forward to getting more out of him this year."

A 2015 graduate of Canisius College (N.Y.), Asmundson set a variety of school goaltending record during his four-year college career. The native of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. owns program records in career goals against average (2.08) and save percentage (.930), and his 1.96 goals against average and .930 save percentage during the 2014-15 campaign are Golden Griffins single-season bests.

"I'm very excited to be coming back for another season with the Fuel," Asmundson said. "I'm really looking forward to returning to such a great organization, city and fan base."

The 23-year-old Hussar rejoins the Fuel after signing an amateur try out contract (ATO) with the team in late March. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound forward made his professional debut against the Quad City Mallards on April 3, and appeared in two games while posting a +1 rating.

"Justin made a very good impression during his short stint with us at the end of the season," John explained. "He uses his size to his ability and that should help with the type of game we want to play. We look to forward to seeing what he can do for a full season."

In his four-year tenure at Merrimack College, Hussar collected 30 points (15g, 15a) in 102 NCAA games. The native of Lancaster, N.Y. posted seven goals and 15 assists in 2015-16, and played alongside 2015-16 Fuel MVP Rhett Bly from 2012-14. Hussar played his junior hockey with the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers and the NAHL's Topeka Roadrunners, and picked up NAHL All-Rookie First Team and Rookie of the Year honors in 2010-11, when he racked up 66 points in 58 games.

"Even though I was only [with the Fuel] for a couple of weeks at the end last year, I felt comfortable and enjoyed it a lot," Hussar said. "I'm very excited for the opportunity to come back to Indianapolis and I'm looking forward to starting the season."

The Fuel now have three players under contract for 2016-17, consisting of two forwards and one goaltender.
