Akron RubberDucks News Release
Summary
A three-run home run from Micah Pries and a two-run shot from Julian Escobedo help the Akron RubberDucks rally from six down with nine outs to go to beat the Erie SeaWolves 9-8 on Saturday night at UPMC Park.
Turning Point
After cutting the SeaWolves lead down to just one run, the RubberDucks looked to complete the comeback in the top of the eighth. Raynel Delgado worked a five-pitch walk to open the inning before advancing to second base on a Angel Lopez sac bunt. Friday night's hero Julian Escobedo came to the plate in a big moment again and launched a two-run home run deep over the wall in right to give Akron the 9-8 lead.
Mound Presence
Jaime Arias got the start for Akron and worked around Erie traffic throughout the night. In three and a third innings, Arias allowed four runs on six hits while striking out one. Jordan Jones followed with an inning and a third allowing three runs while striking out two. Aaron Pinto followed with an inning and a third allowing one run. Carlos Vargas tossed two scoreless innings punching out two. Mason Hickman tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks started to answer back in the third when Jhonkensy Noel singled home Escobedo to make it 2-1 Erie. Jose Tena launched his eighth homer of the season in the fifth to make it 5-2 SeaWolves. Akron started to cut even more into the Erie lead in the seventh.
