SeaWolves Pen Squanders Late Lead

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves' bullpen gave up seven unanswered runs to the Akron RubberDucks resulting in a 9-8 loss at UPMC Park on Saturday.
Erie got on the board in the second inning. Quincy Nieporte walked against Jaime Arias and Dane Myers followed up with a two-run homer to give the SeaWolves a 2-0 lead. It was Myers's 19th long ball of the season.
Akron got a run back in the third. Julian Escobedo led off with a single against Wilmer Flores. Andrew Navigato tried to back pick Escobedo at first base and threw the ball away causing the runner to go to second. Jhonkensy Noel lined a two-out RBI single to left to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The SeaWolves extended their lead back to two runs in the bottom of the third. Navigato banged a one-out double off the left field wall. Parker Meadows singled to advance Navigato to third. Quincy Nieporte laced an RBI single to left to make it a 3-1 game.
Gage Workman began the bottom of the fourth with a double. Dylan Rosa brought Workman in with a two-run blast against Jordan Jones to put Erie ahead, 5-1. It was his fifth homer of the year for Erie and his first since June 7.
Arias did not factor in the decision after yielding four runs in 3.1 innings of work.
Jose Tena brought the game back within two as he homered to right with one out in the fifth.
Meadows walked to open the bottom of the fifth. Myers was issued a one-out free pass and Dillon Dingler capitalized with an RBI double. Corey Joyce drove in Myers with a single to pull the SeaWolves ahead, 7-2.
Daniel Cabrera began the sixth with a walk. Navigato replaced Cabrera at first after reaching on a fielder's choice. Meadows was hit by a pitch and Nieporte cashed in on an RBI ground-rule double to give Erie an 8-2 lead.
Flores received the no-decision despite turning in his second straight quality start. He tossed six innings, giving up two runs, one earned on five hits, walking one, and striking out seven.
The RubberDucks retaliated with five runs in the seventh off of J.T. Hintzen. The knuckleballer issued one-out walks to Angel Lopez and Escobedo. Both runners moved 90 feet on a wild pitch and Tena cashed in with a two-run single. Noel walked and Micah Pries delivered a three-run bomb to cut the deficit to 8-7.
Akron took the lead in the eighth. Elvis Alvarado allowed a walk to Raynel Delgado. Escobedo struck again this time with a two-run jack to right, putting the 'Ducks on top 9-8.
Carlos Vargas (3-2) earned the win. He pitched two shutout innings, striking out one and hitting a batter.
Alvarado (1-2) was tagged with the loss. He went 1.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking one, and striking out one.
Mason Hickman picked up his second save with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one.
