Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (1-2, 17-24) recorded their first win of the second half in dramatic fashion against the Boise Hawks (2-1, 19-22), winning on a walk-off single by right-fielder Mario Yepez in the bottom of the tenth inning after coming back from a 4-1 deficit earlier in the game.

Yepez was 2-for-3 in the game with two walks and a run scored in addition to the walk-off winner, and extended his league-high home hitting streak to ten games, the third longest by any player in the Northwest League this season and longest streak by an AquaSox player. Yepez' single was the first hit by either team after the sixth inning.

The Hawks built up the 4-1 lead on three RBI singles by designated hitter Rafael Lopez, left-fielder Blair Springfield and first baseman Paul Hoilman, his team-leading 31st of the season, as well as a solo home run to start the fifth inning by center-fielder Pin-Chieh Chen. The Sox were held hitless by Boise starter Benjamin Wells until the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Frogs came back in an unorthodox manner in the game, scoring their first two runs of the game on wild pitches by Wells and reliever Kyler Burke and scored the tying run on a single by designated hitter Ramon Morla that hit off the glove of Hawks second baseman Wes Darvill as he attempted to make an over the shoulder catch.

Collecting the win in the game was Everett reliever Jordan Pries (1-1, 3.12 ERA), who replaced starter Stephen Landazuri with two outs in the sixth and did not allow a single hit the rest of the game while striking out six. It was the second time this season Pries has made a relief appearance of four-plus innings.

The Sox will look to even their second half record as they send out right-hander Stephen Kohlscheen (1-0, 3.90 ERA) against Boise righty Yao-Lin Wang (3-1, 2.09 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
