Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 2, 2008) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the club has agreed to terms with pitcher Travis Wade. The 33-year-old is in his fifth consecutive season in the Atlantic League after spending most of the year with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Wade spent all of 2007 with the Ducks, posting a 5-1 record and a 4.08 ERA in 46 appearances.

"We're excited to have Travis back," says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. "He gave us a great season last year and has been a successful Atlantic League pitcher."

The Eastern Michigan University graduate was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Houston Astros in 1999. He spent four and a half seasons in the Houston system, reaching the Triple-A level with New Orleans in 2002. Following a brief stint in the Giants organization, Wade joined the Atlantic League as a member of the Newark Bears in 2004. The Michigan native spent three years with the Bears before joining the Ducks last year, and appeared in 39 games this season for Southern Maryland. He has appeared in 499 minor league games, all but three as a relief pitcher.
