Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks won their fourth straight game on Saturday, defeating the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-5 in 10 innings before a past-capacity crowd of 6,607 at Citibank Park.
Carl Everett's 10th inning single chased home Ray Navarrete with the winning run, bringing an end to a back-and-forth contest. The bloop shot to left-center was a change of pace in a game that saw several balls fly out of the yard. The Ducks had scored all of their previous runs on homers, with Edgardo Alfonzo blasting a grand slam in the third, and Damian Rolls adding a solo shot in the seventh. Branden Florence got the Bluefish on the board in the first inning with a solo home run.
Randy Leek pitched the first five and two-thirds innings for the Ducks, allowing three runs and picking up four strikeouts. Bluefish starter Ryan DiPietro gave up four runs on three hits in six innings of work. Todd Williams, Joe Valentine and Vic Darensbourg provided three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief down the stretch, with Darensbourg (1-2) earning his first win of the year. Eddy Ramos (1-5) took the loss for the Bluefish.
