Sharks drop fourth in a row, 7-4

CAMDEN, NJ- The Camden Riversharks dropped their fourth straight Saturday night with a 7-4 loss to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The loss is the fifth in a string of losses to the Crabs.

The Riversharks took an early lead with an RBI single by first baseman Ron Davenport in the fourth.

They increased the lead with three more in the fifth. Shortstop Shaun Boyd singled with runners on second and third for the first two, prompting Crabs manager Butch Hobson to pull starter Bryan Morse. Outfielder L.J. Biernbaum welcomed reliever Mike Gibbs with a single, and Davenport followed with an RBI knock to right.

The Crabs strung six hits together with two Sharks errors to score six in the sixth. One of five was earned off starter Tony Peguero; reliever Julio Guerrero surrendered another unearned run later in the inning. They scored their final run in the ninth against reliever Alec Zumwalt.

The Crabs bullpen held the Sharks scoreless through the final four innings to earn reliever Brad Whitworth the win. Matthew Schweitzer notched a save for the second consecutive night. Peguero collected his second loss of the season.
