Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 2, 2008) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of former Major League pitcher Bobby Madritsch. The Illinois native spent two seasons in the big leagues and notched six victories for the Seattle Mariners in 2004.
"We're happy to welcome Bobby to our team," says Ducks general manager Michael Pfaff. "He brings veteran experience and big league credentials to our staff, and will play an important role down the stretch."
Madritsch was a sixth round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 1998. Following two years in the the Reds organization, he spent the 2001 and 2002 seasons pitching in various independent leagues. An 11-4 campaign and 2.30 ERA in 2002 with Winnipeg of the Northern League earned Madritsch a contract with the Seattle Mariners, and after quickly climbing the ranks, he made his Major League debut with Seattle in 2004. He posted a 6-3 mark and a 3.27 ERA in 15 games, including 11 starts, with the Mariners and returned to the big club again in 2005. Madritsch owns a record of 40-24 and a 3.08 ERA for his minor league career, and has averaged better than a strikeout per inning over six seasons.
