Votto, Bailey Win Bats Monthly Awards

Louisville, KY - Infielder Joey Votto and RHP Homer Bailey have been named Hitter and Pitcher of the Month for May for the Louisville Bats.

During the month of May, Votto hit a league high .402 with a team high six home runs and 21 runs scored as well as 21 RBI. He improved his average from .192 at the start of the month to its current mark of .311. His .430 on-base percentage for the year is third best in the International League.

Votto, 23, hit in 17 consecutive games during the month, a season high for a Louisville player this year and the fifth longest streak in the IL this season. In 2006, Votto was the Southern League's Most Valuable Player and the Reds organization's Minor League Hitter of the Year.

Bailey went 4-0 and posted a 2.03 ERA in five starts for the Bats during the month of May. He struck out 30 while walking only 12 and the Bats were 5-0 in the games he pitched during the month.

The 21-year-old Bailey is 5-1 on the season and is second in the IL with a 1.89 ERA. Opponents are batting .179 against him and he has equaled a career high of 7.0 innings pitched twice this season. Bailey received the Sheldon "Chief" Bender Award as the organization's Minor League Player of the Year in 2006.
