Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
They may have only been singles, but boy were they deadly. Salem-Keizer (12-11) used 15 of them, as well as a double and a league-leading 19th long ball, to run past Vancouver (8-15) 8-2 on Friday afternoon.
Everybody in the starting lineup recorded a hit as the Volcanoes - for the second straight game - jumped out in front early. Jose Vizcaino Jr. singled in Ronnie Jebavy in the first inning to get the scoring started.
In the next frame, Salem-Keizer used five singles that extended the Volcanoes' lead to 5-0. RBI base knocks from Steven Duggar and Chris Shaw, as well as a two-RBI single from Miguel Gomez put the Volcanoes in good shape early on.

Salem-Keizer flexed its muscle in the third inning, plating two runs off of Fernando Pujadas' third home run of the season. The Volcanoes tacked on their eighth and final run of the afternoon on a Duggar sacrifice fly to center field.

The eight runs in the first three innings was all the offense the Volcanoes would need as Nolan Riggs (2-0, 0.42 ERA) continued his impressive start to the 2015 campaign. Riggs allowed only a single run on four hits and a walk while striking out four Canadians on the way to his second Northwest League victory in his third start. The earned run he surrendered in the fifth inning was his first of the season in 21 1/3 innings.
Nate Santiago allowed the second Vancouver run in the eighth inning, loading the bases before Jarrett Leverett came on in relief and walked in Santiago's run. Leverett was able to escape a bases-loaded jam in the ninth as well and finally close out the contest.
The win is the Volcanoes' second consecutive to begin this five-game series and pushes Salem-Keizer's record back north of .500. Vancouver has dropped six straight games as the Canadians fall even further into the cellar of the Northern division.
Game three is slated for Saturday night with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
