Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
To some people, Bill Post is the voice of Volcanoes stadium, but to others, he is the voice of the community.
As the public address announcer for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Post's voice has filled the stadium for years. He has found value in baseball and, specifically, the Volcanoes.
"I love baseball," Post said. "I feel like I've been here since the birth. This, to me, is America."
However, he is more than a public address announcer. Elected in November 2014 as the State Representative for Oregon House District 25, Post serves the communities of Keizer, St. Paul, and Newberg. He works on the Judiciary Committee, and he is the Vice Chair of the Rural Communities Committee.
Post decided to work in politics when Kim Thatcher, the previous Oregon State Representative, asked him if he wanted to run for her house seat because she was planning on running for Oregon State Senate.
"As I said in my campaign last year, my number one goal is to do nothing that will hurt the people of House District 25 or the people of Oregon," Post said. "I want everyone to succeed. My goal is to not be in their way."
Despite his recent introduction into politics, Post started as a radio talk show host and DJ. He has been in radio for about 40 years, and he even had a conservative talk show on KYKN in Keizer called the Bill Post Radio Show.
"I really miss doing my show," Post said. "It was a big part of my life, but I gave that up to serve my community-to serve the people of this district. It's a challenge every day, but it's hard work, and it's rewarding."
Post has been involved with the Volcanoes since the beginning. He was one of the first season ticket holders in Volcanoes history as he purchased tickets for the 1997 season.
Post sees baseball as a significant aspect of America's culture. Because of his admiration for the sport and his connection to this community, he was at the ballpark choosing his seat location even before the seats were installed.
"My wife and I ran down to the fourth row in section 108, directly behind home plate, and said, 'This is where we want to sit,'" Post said.
In 2002, the Volcanoes asked Post to take on the role of public address announcer, and he did so for six seasons until 2008. When the Volcanoes were searching for an announcer again this year, Post took on the role once again.
"It's great to be back," Post said. "A lot of the fans who were here in the old days are still here. They say, 'Hi.' They give me high-fives every night, so it's fun. People immediately walk in and say, 'That's Bill's voice.'"
Along with his radio, public address announcing, and political experience, Post also keeps himself busy with his involvement as the chairman board of trustees at Salem Evangelical Church.
"Between the Volcanoes, the Capital, and the church, every once in a while, I sleep," Post said, talking about his busy schedule.
Post is also incredibly involved in the digital world. He mainly uses Facebook and Twitter, but also has a presence on about seven different social media platforms.
"I am very involved in social media. That came from the radio. For me personally, social media is a promotional device. It's how I promote me. First doing it through the radio, and now I do it as an elected official."
It's easy to see that Post is definitely more than the man whose voice is heard over the speakers at Volcanoes Stadium. He is a busy individual who dedicates a significant amount of his time to the people of the local community.
