Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
The Eugene Emeralds scored seven runs in the first inning and that's all they needed in their 10-4 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils Thursday night at Gesa Stadium. Eugene (14-8) took advantage of several costly wild pitches by the Dust Devils (10-12) and timely hitting in the first inning, which eventually proved to be the difference in the game.
Jose Carlos Urena kept up his hot hitting in the game with a two-run double for the Dust Devils. Peter Van Gansen had a solid performance as well for Tri-City, posting two hits along with a stolen base and an RBI in the game. Justin Pacchioli had two hits and Rod Boykin had an RBI triple in the loss along with a tremendous diving outfield catch.
Matt Rose was great for Eugene, collecting a home run and three RBIs on the night. Adonis Paula added to the winning effort for the Emeralds as well with two RBIs on the night.
Tri-City's starting pitcher, Alex Constanza (0-1), had a start he would like to forget in the loss. Constanza pitched only a third of an inning while giving up two runs on wild pitches. Overall Constanza gave up six runs on two hits while walking three batters. Phil Maton was the best pitcher for Tri-City, pitching three innings, giving up no runs and just one hit while striking out five batters.
Starting pitcher Kyle Twomey had a short outing for the Emeralds. Twomey pitched two innings while giving up no runs on two hits while striking out one and walking one batter. Jose Paulino (1-1) did the bulk of the pitching for Eugene in relief of Twomey to earn the win. Paulino pitched four and two thirds innings, striking out eight and giving up four runs on four hits while walking three batters.
The Dust Devils and Emeralds will play the second game of their five game series tomorrow night at Gesa Stadium. It will be Faith Night presented by Meyer's Auto Tech and $1 Family Feast Night thanks to CO-Energy. All hot dogs, bags of chips, ice cream sandwiches and 12 oz. Coca-Cola products will be $1 all night long! Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
