Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Vancouver Canadians (8-15) were unable to snap their losing streak on Friday afternoon at Scotiabank field, dropping their sixth in a row in an 8-2 loss against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (12-11).

Vancouver's starting pitcher, Francisco Rios (0-4) picked up the loss allowing five runs to score in 1.1 innings of work, after the Volcanoes pulled ahead early with a four-run 2nd inning

Salem-Keizer's starting pitcher Nolan Riggs (2-0) was exemplary, through four scoreless innings, before loading the bases in the bottom of the 5th. 3B Ryan Metzler scored DH Gunnar Heidt on an RBI single, giving Riggs his first earned run of the season and the Canadians their first run of the game.

Volcanoes reliever, Nate Santiago, found himself in similar trouble at the bottom of the 8th inning, loading the bases before being replaced by LHP Jarret Leverett. With two out, Leverett walked Gunnar Heidt to send SS JC Cardenas home. The Canadians sent in Sean Hurley, leading the team in homeruns, to pinch-hit in an offensive effort. Hurley's fly ball to centre field was caught to end the inning.

The Canadians made one final offensive push in the bottom of the 9th, as once again, Leverett loaded the bases, but with two out, C Justin Atkinson hit a line out to 3B Jose Vizcaino Jr. to end the game.

The Canadians and Volcanoes return to Scotiabank Field on Saturday, with the series still up for grabs. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.

Notes: Canadians fans got their first look at 2015 draft picks CF Andew Guillotte, RHP Josh Degraaf, and LHP Stuart Holmes who all made their Vancouver debut from the Bluefield Blue Jays... In his first inning as a Canadian, Holmes retired four Volcanoes batters in order and went on to complete 2.1 innings with no runs.

... Reminder that Saturday's fireworks extravaganza is postponed due to dry conditions in the Greater Vancouver Area.
