"Voice of the RiverDogs" Danny Reed Resigns to Take Citadel Post

CHARLESTON, SC - Danny Reed, who has served as the "Voice of the Charleston RiverDogs" for the past 21/2 seasons, has resigned his post to become of the "Voice of The Citadel Bulldogs" and Director of Citadel Broadcasting at Kirkman Broadcasting.

Reed will remain with the club through their August 18-21 series at Augusta, and College of Charleston announcer Jeff McCarragher will complete the season's final 14 games.

Reed replaces Darren Goldwater as "Voice of The Citadel Bulldogs," who resigned last week to concentrate on his career in television broadcasting.

"I am extremely excited to be joining The Citadel and to take my broadcasting career to the next level," said Reed. "I can't thank the RiverDogs enough for allowing me the chance to hone my skills in a wonderful environment, and I'll forever be grateful to them for giving me my start."

"This is a great opportunity for Danny, and we wish him the very best," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "While it is a bittersweet time for us, his promotion to NCAA Division I athletics is well-earned, and we're happy for him.

"At the same time, it is a credit to the RiverDogs staff, as it always gratifying when others want our employees," Echols continued. "We take great pride in our staff, as they are the backbone of our successful organization."

Reed, 25, and a native of Cumberland, MD, joined the RiverDogs as the assistant director of media relations and the broadcast's studio host in February 2008. He was promoted to the play-by-play position for the RiverDogs' baseball network in August 2008 when then-announcer Josh Maurer left to become the play-by-play voice of the University of Massachusetts Minutemen.

Reed graduated summa cum laude from Waynesburg (PA) University in 2007 with a B.A. in Communication. During his time at Waynesburg, he served as the chief play-by-play voice of Waynesburg's men's and women's basketball, baseball and Greene County High School football and played four years on the Waynesburg football team. Reed then interned with the Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League's Northern Division following his graduation from June through September 2007.

McCarragher serves as the Director of Broadcasting at Kirkman Broadcasting where he is the "Voice of the College of Charleston Cougars."

McCarragher, a sports broadcasting veteran with 15 years in radio and television, came to Charleston with an extensive play-by-play resume. His stops include multi-year stints as the voice of UNC Greensboro basketball, the lead announcer for the Norfolk Tides (AAA - NY Mets) and the Greensboro Bats, as well as television broadcasts for the University of Kansas women's basketball team.

He also spent four years in Kansas City, KS. While there he spent two years as the pregame show host for the Kansas City Royals and co-host of the morning talk show on 610 Sports. McCarragher also appeared on local television for two years as the Sports Anchor on the ABC television affiliate in Topeka, where he was honored by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters with the 2006 Sportscast of the Year for medium market television.
