Hickory Crawdads News Release

HICKORY, NC - The 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads fell to the Charleston River Dogs, 4-1, before 3,758 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Sunday evening. The game was delayed for 57 minutes in the top of the third due to inclement weather.

The River Dogs (48-71, 22-27) took an early lead with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second against RHP Joe Van Meter (L, 5-5). After CF Eduardo Sosa extended the inning with a double, 3B Jose Mojica cracked the scoreless tie with an RBI single to make it 1-0.

Charleston added on to its lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning against LHP Kevin Johnson after the rain delay. With two on and one down, 1B Kevin Mahoney drove an RBI single that brought in LF Ramon Flores from second base. After a strikeout, 2B Anderson Feliz kept the inning going with a walk that loaded the bases, before Johnson misfired with a wild pitch to score the stanza's second run and make it 3-0.

The Crawdads (66-51, 26-23) got on the board in the top of the fourth against LHP Francisco Rondon. With two down, CF Jake Skole kept the inning alive with a walk. Skole then raced all the way home from first on an RBI double to right field by LF Alejandro Selen, cutting it to just a 3-1 deficit for Hickory.

However, the River Dogs responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth. C Jeff Farnham doubled with one out, and then moved to third on a ground out, before scoring later in the inning on another wild pitch to stretch the Charleston lead back to three runs, 4-1.

The 'Dads received three perfect relief innings from RHP Jorge Marban and then one scoreless frame from RHP Ben Rowen to keep it close. However, Charleston RHP Mike Recchia (W, 3-0) tossed three scoreless relief innings as well, before a scoreless inning apiece from LHP Aaron Dott and RHP Mark Montgomery (S, 11) to close the 4-1 win for Charleston.
