"Voice" of the Jackals Moves To AHL

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that Director of Broadcasting and Public Relations Owen Newkirk is leaving the team to accept a job with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.
Newkirk has been the "Voice" of the Jackals for the past four seasons in the United Hockey League, including their memorable run to the 2004 Colonial Cup Finals against Muskegon in his first year with the team.
"We would like to congratulate Owen on his new position with Albany in the AHL," said Jackals Owner Dr. Mostafa Afr and Team President Tamer Afr. "Over the years, he has been a mainstay as the Voice of the Jackals and a part of our family. It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to this valuable asset of the Elmira Jackals, but do so with the knowledge and pleasure that he is taking another step towards his career goal and wish him the best in his future endeavors. Owen will be greatly missed and we would like to thank him sincerely for his years of dedication and hard work."

"In the last four years everyone has sincerely welcomed me into the community and made me feel right at home. I also want to thank our owner Dr. Mostafa Afr and our team president Tamer Afr for giving me such a wonderful opportunity to work for the Jackals; I would not be advancing to the AHL without their tremendous support. I want to wish everyone, the team and fans alike, nothing but the best of luck as they enter their first season in the ECHL."
At the end of August Newkirk will join Albany, the AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League. He leaves Elmira having broadcast 322 consecutive Jackals games (regular season plus playoffs) in seven different states on both radio and television.
Amidst another busy off-season, the Jackals are currently preparing for the 2007-2008 season, their inaugural campaign in the ECHL and their 8th season of operations beginning on October 19, 2007 at First Arena against the Wheeling Nailers.
