Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed forward Gino Guyer and defenseman Joey Hope to a pair of one-year contracts for the 2007-08 season.

Guyer, who will turn 24 right before the season starts, joined the Aces in the midst of a November 2006 road trip after being acquired in a trade with Texas. He scored a goal and had two assists in his first game with Alaska, a 6-1 rout of Bakersfield, but suffered a knee injury against Victoria late in the trip, ending his season after just six games, all of which were played away from Sullivan Arena. Guyer, a natural center who played on the wing in his brief stint last season, scored 13 goals as a freshman for the 2003 NCAA champions at the University of Minnesota. Two years later, he helped the Golden Gophers return to the Frozen Four with 11 goals and 19 assists.

The 25-year-old Hope grew up in Anchorage and played at East High School before joining the U.S. Junior National team and representing his country at the 2002 World Juniors in the Czech Republic. He has battled injuries in each of the last three years and has never played more than 52 games in a single season. Last year, his first with the Aces and his first at the ECHL level after three years with Philadelphia (AHL), the 6-1, 190-pound Hope scored twice and assisted on six other goals while posting a +4 rating in 44 games.

Alaska enters the 2007-08 season as the three-time defending West Division champions and matches up with Texas in a pair of pre-season games at Sullivan Arena October 10-11 at 7:15 p.m. Aces season tickets start at only $396; please call 258-ACES or visit www.alaskaaces.com for more details. Alaska opens its regular season campaign in Fresno on October 23 before returning home for a three-game series against Florida, beginning Friday, November 2, at 7:15 p.m.
