
Virginia Tech Hat Auction Raises Nearly 5k

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves on-line auction of autographed, game-worn Virginia Tech hats to benefit the Hokie Spirit Memorial fund raised a total of $4,871.84. The auction concluded last night. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to honor the victims of the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech.
The Braves wore the hats for two games. Over 400 bids were placed in the two week auction. The highest bid for a player hat was $300 for Yunel Escobar.
Virginia Tech has established the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to aid in the healing process and generate financial support. The fund will be used to cover expenses including but not limited to: grief counseling, memorials, communication expenses, comfort expenses, and incidental needs.
