Richmond, VA - The Charlotte Knights beat the Richmond Braves 6-3 Friday at The Diamond. The Knights snapped a seven game losing streak and ended the Braves eight game winning streak, their longest since 2002.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Andy Gonzalez. Charlotte added two more runs in the second on a throwing error and an RBI ground out by Kenny Kelly. A sacrifice fly by Kenny Perez in the sixth gave the Knights a 4-1 lead. Richmond rallied back in the home half on a two-run home run by Bill McCarthy. Charlotte tacked on two more runs in the seventh on a run scoring double by Gonzalez and an RBI triple by Brian Anderson. Richmond picked up a run in the seventh on a double play ball, but left two on.
Heath Phillips earned the win. Ryan Bukvich notched a save. Macay McBride took the loss. Anderson had three of the Knights 13 hits. Doug Clark had two hits for the Braves.
The Braves host the Durham Bulls in the first of a two game series Saturday at The Diamond at 7 PM. Jonathan Johnson will pitch for the Braves against the Bulls Mitch Talbot.
