Vipers' Winning Streak Snapped

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers saw their four-game winning streak come to a close in a 105-99 loss to Austin Toros on Saturday at Cedar Park Center.

The Vipers (23-10) jumped out to an 11-3 lead, but the Toros (13-18) responded with an 8-0 run to tie the game. Jerel McNeal converted on a three-pointer play and Kevin Palmer hit a three-pointer to keep the game tied, and then after a Richard Roby slam dunk off a turnover, San Antonio Spurs-assignee James Anderson hit a jumper to tie the game. Jeff Adrien gave the Vipers the lead back with a lay-up, but Aubrey Coleman tied the game with a basket. Terrel Harris hit a jumper with 3:05 remaining to give the Vipers a 20-18 lead, but Coleman tied the game with a driving lay-up, and with 1:25 remaining, Leo Lyons hit a three-pointer to give the Toros their first lead at 23-20. It was the first time the Vipers had trailed in 153:38 of game time.

That sparked a 17-2 run as the Toros built a 35-22 lead after Lyons hit a pair of free throws with 8:42 remaining. The Vipers came back to pull within 53-50 at the end of the quarter by outscoring the Toros 28-18 the rest of the way.

The Vipers got as close as two points late in the game, but could never get closer.

The Toros kept the Vipers at bay by shooting 55% from behind the arc (11-for-20). The Vipers shot 15.4% (4-for-26).

The Vipers were led in scoring by McNeal, who had a game-high 28 points with eight rebounds and six assists. Adrien recorded his 18th double-double in 24 games with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Toros were led in scoring by Lance Thomas, who scored 17 points. Anderson also finished with 17 while Palmer and Coleman each scored 15 points.

The Vipers and Toros complete the three-game series on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at State Farm Arena. It's Heroes Night, presented by United Blood Services. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive stress balls, courtesy of United Blood Services. There will be a free pre-game tailgate party, courtesy of Pepper's at Uptown and Budweiser. Fans can take advantage of concessions specials including hot dogs, popcorn and soda for $1.00 each as well as beer for $1.50. Every donation of four non-perishable food items at the door to benefit the Hoops Against Hunger food drive, presented by Action 4 News and Clear Channel Radio (KTEX 100.3, Wild 104, The X 105.5, Hot Kiss 106.3 and Classic Hits 1700 AM), will be rewarded with one free ticket. Doors open at 6:00.
