Vipers Top Tulsa 66ers In Home Opener

HIDALGO, Texas "" Troy Daniels led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers with 27 points in a 105-96 win tonight over the Tulsa 66ers at State Farm Arena. Prior to tipoff, the Vipers raised the 2012-13 NBA Development League Championship banner. With tonight's win, the Vipers have won 19 straight games since March 16, 2013.

In addition to Daniels, James Johnson had 24 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks. Isaiah Canaan added 16 points and Robert Covington finished with 10.

The Vipers led throughout the first quarter and into the second quarter. With 8:27 left in the first half, RGV held its largest advantage of the game 37-17. Uzoh responded with a layup that gave Tulsa the momentum to close their deficit to 49-41 at the half.

Midway through the third the quarter, RGV built their lead to 72-57. Tulsa used a 10-2 run to close the gap to 74-69 with 1:20 on the clock. Parrom sunk a shot from behind the arc and Johnson connected on an alley-oop, assisted by B.J. Young, to lead the 66ers 79-69 at the end of the third.

Tulsa battled throughout the fourth quarter. Early, Xavier Alexander shot a three-pointer to put the 66ers within four points of the Vipers 81-77. RGV fought back and took a 96-81 lead on a three-point shot from Canaan. The Vipers won the game 105-96.

The RGV Vipers host three games at State Farm Arena next week. First up, the Texas Legends visit for a 7 p.m. game Monday, Dec. 2. Then, the Delaware 87ers play Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., and Thursday, Dec. 5 in an 11 a.m. Kids Day game.
