Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League (D-League) have announced today that Bob Hoffman has resigned from his position as Head Coach. Bob Hoffman has left to pursue a job in collegiate basketball. In respect for the school he will be joining, the Vipers will not announce his destination until he is formally introduced. The terms of his resignation are still pending.

"While as an organization we are sad to see our head coach leave, we are so very excited for Coach Hoffman and his family as he continues his coaching career in the college ranks." Yvette Ramos Vipers Co- owner said. "Bob is an excellent coach, community leader and family man. He will be difficult to replace."

Bob Hoffman was no stranger to the Rio Grande Valley before joining the Vipers organization. Hoffman was the former Head Coach of the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg. Hoffman guided UTPA to a 69-76 record over his five years (the program was 34-104 in the five seasons prior to his arrival). Included was a 21-9 mark in 2001-02 (the program's most wins since 1989-90) and a 14-14 record in 2003-04 -- both of which landed him Independent Coach of the Year honors. Hoffman departed UTPA to join the University of Oklahoma as an assistant coach. Hoffman was named the first Head Coach of the RGV Vipers on May 5th 2007. The Vipers are currently 17-29 in their inaugural season in the D-League.

"Bob was a huge part in making our first season as strong as it has been," Ramos added. "His work with the community and the people he knows in the RGV basketball world, made this such a huge impact in our inaugural season."

The Vipers coach had two of his players named D-League Players of the Month (Desmon Farmer, CJ Watson) and has the distinction of coaching the first D-League player of 07-08 (Watson) who earned a season long NBA contract.

The Vipers are still awaiting word on when Hoffman will leave the team. An updated release is forthcoming and will announce the terms of Coach Hoffman's resignation, departure date, and information on the process of finding their next coach.
