Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
EL SEGUNDO, CA - All five Los Angeles D-Fenders' starters scored in double figures Wednesday at STAPLES Center as the D-Fenders held on for a 101-90, wire-to-wire, victory over the visiting Colorado 14ers.
Los Angeles (30-13) opened the first quarter on an 8-2 run and never looked back, shooting a solid 56% from the floor; the visiting 14ers shot a dismal 39% in the contest. Los Angeles moved the ball well leading to a season high 32 assists in the win. Errick Craven led the D-Fenders with eight helpers.
"That was the best passing we've done all year;" said D-Fenders Head Coach Dan Panaggio. "When you're making great passes, you also tend to make great cuts and they had difficulties staying with us. I thought that we did a good job at limiting their runs."
The D-Fenders starting frontcourt dominated the 14ers frontline on the offensive end, outscoring Colorado 45-31. Los Angeles doubled up the 14ers in the paint, outscoring them 68-34. D-Fenders forward Brandon Wallace set a career-high blocking seven of the D-Fenders' 10 rejections, compared to Colorado's two.
Wallace finished the game with a season-high 14 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and added eight rebounds and seven assists in the win. D-Fenders starters Wendell White and Cecil Brown led the way for Los Angeles, scoring 21 points apiece.
"We played well as a team and we played great defense;" Wallace added. "They have some great shooters, but we were able to contain them for the most part."
Colorado could not cut the D-Fenders' lead closer than five points in the second half. The 14ers dropped their fourth consecutive game, sending their record to 23-19 on the season. The 14ers were led by guards Eric Osmundson and Billy Thomas. Osmundson led his team in scoring with 18 points and Thomas contributed five steals and six assists.
The D-Fenders will try to clinch a spot in the 2008 NBA D-League Playoff as they host the Austin Toros at STAPLES Center on Friday, March 28th with a 3:30 scheduled tipoff. Colorado travels to Bakersfield for a matchup with the Jam on Thursday night.
On Sunday, March 30th, the first 500 fans in attendance for the D-Fenders game against the Iowa Energy will receive a coupon good for one (1) FREE BURRITO courtesy of Chipotle Mexican Grill. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30pm.
