Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League (D-League) have announced today that Assistant Coach Brian Walsh has been named the Acting Head Coach for the remaining four games of the 2007-08 season. The move became effective after former Head Coach Bob Hoffman resigned to pursue a position at an NCAA Division 1 program. Walsh will also be considered for the head coaching position following the conclusion of the season. Director of Basketball Operation George Gervin will be consulting with the team and with Walsh for the remainder of the season.

"We are ecstatic that we have a very capable coach to take over the reigns of our team," Vipers Co-owner Yvette Ramos said. "Brian has won everywhere he has been in all of his stops in minor league basketball and we think this is a great opportunity for him."

Walsh was considered for the Vipers head coaching position before Hoffman was hired as Head Coach on May 5, 2007. Walsh was previously the Director of Scouting of the Colorado 14ers where he helped lead a club to the 2007 D-League Championship game. Walsh also led the Nebraska Cranes to the 2006 USBL Championship and was an assistant coach for the Dakota Wizards in 2004-2005 and helped lead the to the CBA finals.

"After seeing the way the fan base and ownership have embraced this team despite our struggles, I am honored to be a part of such a great organization and the Valley's team," Walsh said. " This is a great situation and I hope to be here as the head coach for many years to come."

Walsh will begin coaching the club immediately and will lead the Vipers for the first time in Thursday's game versus the Albuquerque Thunderbirds.
