
Vipers Fall to Legends in Overtime

FRISCO, TEXAS - The Texas Legends scored four points in the final 19.8 seconds of regulation to force overtime and defeate the defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers 112-108 Monday at Dr. Pepper Arena.
Trailing 87-84 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, the Vipers (7-7) hit back-to-back three-pointers to take the lead until the final seconds of regulation. The Vipers led 101-97 with 33.5 seconds left after Roby hit 1-of-2 free throws, but Joe Alexander hit a jumper with 19.8 seconds left, and an errant pass turned into a Booker Woodfox layup 6.7 seconds later to force overtime.
Woodfox hit a three-pointer with 1:08 remaining in overtime to give the Legends (8-5) 107-101 lead and put the game out of reach.
After Mouhammad Faye hit a three-pointer in the first 68 seconds of the game, the Legends went on a 12-2 run to take a 15-5 lead that Richard Roby snuffed out with a reverse lay-up.
The Vipers took the lead back at 24-23 when Garrett Temple hit back-to-back baskets at start of the second quarter.
Trailing 69-65 midway through the third quarter, the Vipers went on a 7-2 run, punctuated by a Mustafa Shakur three-pointer, to tie the game at 71-71 at the 5:27 mark.
The Vipers hit 13-of-37 (35.1%) shots from behind the arc. The 37 three-pointer attempts is a new franchise record for the Vipers.
Temple led the Vipers with a career-high 27 points with five rebounds and ofur assists. Shakur finished with a season-high 24 points to go with six assists while Roby scored 20 points with eight rebounds.
Alexander led all scorers with 31 points an 15 rebounds while Sean Williams scored 22 points with 22 rebounds (13 offensive) and five blocked shots.
The Vipers return to action on New Year's Eve for the first of two with the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 7:00 p.m. at State Farm Arena. Fans can take advantage of the State Farm Family 4 Pack, which consists of four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $44. Doors open at 6:00.
