Cleveland Cavaliers Assign Samardo Samuels to NBA Development League

NEW YORK, Dec. 27, 2010 - Cleveland Cavaliers forward Samardo Samuels was assigned to the Erie BayHawks, Cleveland's NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the 21st time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the first assignment for Samuels, a rookie out of Louisville.

Samuels (6-9, 260) has appeared in four games this season for Cleveland, averaging 3.3 points in 4.5 minutes. Samuels played on the Chicago Bulls' 2010 NBA Summer League team, averaging 12.6 points and 7.4 rebounds in five games.

The Cavaliers signed Samuels, an early entry candidate for the 2010 NBA Draft, as an undrafted free agent on Aug. 16. A 2008 McDonald's All-American, Samuels averaged 13.5 points and 5.9 rebounds in two seasons at Louisville, and was an All-Big East Third Team selection as a sophomore.
