Vipers Extend Winning Streak to Four with Win over Iowa

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Armoni Brooks scored seven from deep in this afternoon's Vipers (7-6) 119-111 win over Iowa Wolves (2-11) at HP Field House. RGV extended their winning streak to four games.
Brooks paved the way for the Vipers as he totaled a team-high of 23 points from off the bench while shooting 7-for-13 from beyond the arc and 7-for-15 from the field. Houston Rockets assignee Kevin Porter Jr. followed Brooks with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, falling short from a second triple-double.
Dewan Hernandez notched 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and added one steal and one block. The big man shot 63.6% from the field and perfect (4-4) from the charity stripe. Both Shawn Occeus and Trevelin Queen scored 14 points each. Occeus totaled five rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile, Queen totaled two rebounds, two assists and a lone steal and block. He shot 50.0% from the field and from beyond the arc.
For Iowa, Zylan Cheatham led the way with a game-high of 26 points and added nine rebounds, two assists while shooting 11-for-15 from the field and perfect from deep (2-2). Three other starters hit double-digits: Isaiah Briscoe (14 PTS, 7 REB, 3 AST), Charlie Brown Jr. (12 PTS, 4 REB, 2 AST, 2 STL) and Allonzo Trier (10 PTS, 5 REB, 5 AST). From off the bench, Canyon Barry and Lindell Wigginton contributed 28 points.
The first quarter was even on both sides (32-32) as Porter Jr. led the way with 14 points and three rebounds, but the Vipers continued to take the lead going into the half 54-52.
Though RGV was forced to seven turnovers in the third frame of the matchup, they came up on top 86-80. Brooks made four of his seven three-pointers, scoring 12 points. In the last quarter, the Vipers earned their biggest lead of 16 points.
