
Vipers Extend Winning Streak To Five In Victory Over Lakeland

Edinburg, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (8-3), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, pulled away with a 114-107 victory over the Lakeland Magic (5-6) on Saturday night at Bert Ogden Arena.
With 5:30 to go in the first quarter the Vipers led 22-11 over the Magic, but Lakeland was just getting started as the team went on an eight-point run and minimized the Vipers lead 22-19. With 2:53 to go, the Magic tied the game 24-24 and pulled away with a lead for the remainder of the quarter and ended the quarter 35-31.
To start the second quarter the Magic went on a nine-point run and set the score 44-31 in its favor. Lakeland stretched its lead and sent the game into halftime with a score of 68-56.
At the beginning of the third the Vipers were down by as many as 12, but the team came back from that deficit and closed the third quarter 85-83 still in favor of Lakeland.
During the fourth quarter the Vipers quickly turned things around. With 8:11 to go RGV grasped a 94-93 lead and kept that lead alive until the very end allowing the team to walk away with a 114-107 victory.
Houston Rockets assignment TyTy Washington Jr. paved the way for the Vipers with 25 points. Louis King put up 22 points and seven rebounds. Willie Cauley-Stein had his first double-double with the Vipers with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Houston Rockets Two-Way player Darius Days scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Cassius Stanley put up 11 points. Trhae Mitchell scored 10 from off the bench.
Lakeland was led by Joel Ayayi with 21 points and five rebounds. Zavier Simpson and Jay Scrubb finished the night with 19 points each. Alex Morales and Drake Jeffries each put up 13 points. Simisola Shittu had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
