Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers entered the fourth quarter with a one point edge but could not finish out with a win. The Colorado 14ers outscored the Vipers 37-27 in the final quarter en route to the 113-104 win over Rio Grande Valley at the Broomfield Event Center Monday night. The 14ers are one of only two teams the Vipers have yet to defeat this season with the other being the Utah Flash. The Vipers are winless in six tries versus the 14ers despite having second half leads in four of them.

The Vipers were led offensively by Desmon Farmer's 31 points, with 25 of them coming in the second half. Four other Vipers finished in double figures in the loss including 22 from guard Kris Collins before he fouled out in the fourth quarter. Stanley Asumnu tallied a career high 18 points in the loss off the bench for Rio Grande Valley.

Foul shots were the difference in the fourth quarter as Colorado converted 14 of 17 free throw attempts in the final quarter after shooting just 52% from the foul line in the first half. The Vipers attempted 26 fewer free throws in the game and converted 16 fewer foul shots despite shooting

Elton Brown and Eddie Gill led the way for the 14ers, who rallied from a six point fourth quarter deficit to take the win. Brown scored 25 points and pulled down a season-high 19 rebounds. Gill scored a team-high 26 points and dished out eight assists in the victory.

The Vipers will play the first of three straight at home Tuesday night at Dodge Arena versus the Ft. Wayne Mad Antz. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm. The game will also be the first professional game for former Texas-Pan American guard Sergio Sanchez in the Rio Grande Valley as a member of the Vipers.
