Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated division rival Anaheim Arsenal 88-80 Tuesday at STAPLES Center, behind 32 points from guard Brian Chase.
The D-Fenders improved their record to 22-10 with their fourth victory over the Arsenal this season. The D-Fenders used stifling defense to hold Anaheim to 33.3% shooting from the floor. Los Angeles outscored the Arsenal 26-14 in the third quarter after being down by two at halftime.
"Basketball is a game of runs, and good teams are going to make runs;" said Chase, "but I thought we did a good job at withstanding their run in the fourth quarter."
Chase led all scorers, ending the night 10-18 from the floor, 5-7 from behind the arc. Sean Banks chipped in for the D-Fenders with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Jelani McCoy controlled the paint, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking 4 shots.
"We talked about coming out and doing the little things," said Arsenal Head Coach Reggie Geary. "That means getting every loose ball, making sure we knock down our free throws, but we were just not able to do that today."
Anaheim (13-20) was led by guard Will Blalock's 23 points and Kedrick Brown's 13 and six rebounds. Anaheim committed only 12 turnovers in the contest, but shot a dismal 55% from the free throw line. The Arsenal were outrebounded 51-39 in the game.
Los Angeles improved their home record to 11-2 overall this season and completed the first half of the season series against the Arsenal 4-0.
The D-Fenders will stay in Los Angeles as the Idaho Stampede come to town on Thursday. The two teams with the top records in the D-League will square off at STAPLES Center with a scheduled 3:30pm tip-off. Anaheim will travel to Utah to face the Flash on Friday night.
